Sweet Strawberry Cream Cheese Heart Danishes

For the Danishes:
- 1 sheet puff pastry thawed but cold
- 4 oz cream cheese softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar plus extra for dusting
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp lemon zest
- 1/3 cup strawberry jam
- 1 egg whisked with 1 tsp water for egg wash
For the Glaze (Optional):
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 –2 tsp milk or lemon juice
- 1 tbsp strawberry jam
Tools:
- Heart-shaped cookie cutter 3–4 inches
- Parchment paper
Prep the Pastry: On a floured surface, unfold the puff pastry and cut out 8 hearts. Place 4 on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Make the Filling: Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and lemon zest until smooth.
Assemble the Danishes: Spread 1 tbsp cream cheese mixture on each base heart, leaving a border. Add 1 tsp strawberry jam in the center. Place remaining hearts on top and seal edges with a fork.
Bake: Brush with egg wash and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15–18 minutes until golden.
Glaze: Cool for 10 minutes, drizzle with glaze, and dust with powdered sugar.
- Keep puff pastry cold for flaky layers.
- Store in an airtight container for 2 days or freeze unbaked for up to 1 month.
