Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup dried hibiscus petals
  • 4 cups water
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey or sugar optional
  • 1-2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice optional
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh mint for garnish, optional

Instructions

  • Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a pot.
  • Once boiling, add the dried hibiscus petals to the water and let them steep for about 5-7 minutes.
  • After steeping, remove the pot from the heat and strain out the petals.
  • If desired, stir in honey or sugar while the tea is still warm, so it dissolves easily.
  • Let the tea cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour to chill.
  • Once chilled, pour the tea over a glass of ice and add a squeeze of lemon juice for an extra burst of flavor. Garnish with fresh mint if desired.

Notes

  • Hibiscus tea has a tart flavor, so adjust the sweetness to your liking by adding more honey or sugar.
  • For a citrusy twist, try adding orange or lime juice instead of lemon.
  • You can also add spices like cinnamon, ginger, or cloves during steeping for extra flavor.
