Homemade Tortillas

I love making homemade tortillas because they are so soft and delicious. There’s nothing like fresh tortillas to go with tacos, burritos, or even just as a snack. The best part is how easy they are to make, and you only need a few simple ingredients. Once you try these, you might never go back to store-bought tortillas!

Fun Variations:

These tortillas are great because you can easily change them up. If you want something healthier, you can swap all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour for a boost of fiber. Or, for some extra flavor, try adding herbs like cilantro or garlic powder into the dough. You can even make them smaller for bite-sized tacos or larger for wraps!

What You Need to Make It:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup warm water

How to Make It:

  1. First, I mix the flour, salt, and baking powder in a large bowl.
  2. I add the vegetable oil and warm water to the bowl and mix everything together until it forms a dough.
  3. I knead the dough for about 3-5 minutes until it’s smooth, then cover it and let it rest for about 10 minutes.
  4. After resting, I divide the dough into 8 equal balls.
  5. I roll each ball into a flat circle about 6 inches wide.
  6. I heat a pan over medium heat and cook each tortilla for about 1 minute on each side, or until they start to puff up and have light brown spots.
  7. Once cooked, I stack the tortillas and cover them with a clean towel to keep them warm.

Serving and Storage Tips:

  • Serve them warm with your favorite fillings, or just with a little butter.
  • You can store leftover tortillas in an airtight container or bag at room temperature for up to 2 days. They also freeze well if you want to keep them longer.
  • To reheat, just warm them in a dry pan or microwave for a few seconds.

Tips:

  • If you want softer tortillas, try adding a little extra vegetable oil to the dough.
  • For thicker tortillas, roll them out a little less thin.
  • You can add flavor by mixing in some herbs or spices into the dough before rolling it out.

Enjoy these easy homemade tortillas! They’re a simple, delicious addition to any meal, and they taste so much better than store-bought.
